Established 1960. Formed from the National Dive Patrol and renamed NAUI. Considered one of the most prestigious Dive organisations in America.

Many NAUI professionals comment on how intense and gruelling the DM/Instructor courses are. With all with the hallmarks of a US Navy regime (just ask any NAUI professional about the bail-out drill!) no would-be NAUI DM/Instructor can treat the training as an attendance course. Divers can and have been failed for not making the grade either physically, mentally or academically.

While some of the more liberal-minded divers may criticize the elite standards NAUI set, they are reckoned to be one of the best with regard to fitness, standards and teaching/dive expertise.
