Most Research/Scientific divers are affiliated to a marine research organisation examples of which include : NOAA, NUMA and DSAT. Alternatively they could be University-based or a mixture of both. They tend to be specialists in their field of study which can range from geology to marine biology to oceanography. Often they will enlist the help of locally based divers in the area of study to reach dive-sites and for knowledge on the marine conditions. Many of the experiments and projects launched can be long-term undertakings.
