Snorkel keepers are a must-have accessory for your snorkeling adventures. They attach to a mask strap and keep your snorkel connected to your mask whenever you dive under water. This prevents you from losing your snorkel, which is a common problem for snorkelers.
So, what’s a snorkel keeper? Simply put, snorkel keepers are small plastic or rubber rings that attach to the end of your snorkel and keep it from floating away.
They come in a variety of colors and are designed to fit different types of snorkels. Some snorkel keepers will fit over any type of snorkel, while others are designed for specific makes and models.
How Do You Use a Snorkel Keeper?
The snorkel keeper has a clip on one end, which is designed to be attached to your mask strap. On the other end is a loop that holds onto the snorkel’s mouthpiece.
In order for a snorkel keeper to work properly, there must be enough slack in the loop for it to move freely around the mouthpiece of your mask or goggles. This allows you to take off the mask or goggles without having to detach the snorkel keeper first.
Some people like using snorkel keepers because they feel safer with them on their masks rather than having their gear floating away while they swim around looking for interesting things to see underwater.
Other people don’t like using them because they feel as if they restrict their range of motion too much when swimming around with their heads above water.
Different Styles of Snorkel Keepers
A snorkel keeper is a length of cord that is attached to the strap on your mask or snorkel. The keeper can be used to hold your mask, so you don’t have to hold it while you’re swimming.
There are two different styles of snorkel keepers:
One-piece Snorkel Keepers
One-piece snorkel keepers are made from silicone or rubber, so they’re comfortable against your face and won’t move around while you’re wearing them. They also have a clip on the end that allows you to attach your mask and snorkel together, so they don’t float away if something happens to one of them, for instance, if someone knocks into you.
This makes them great for people who travel with their snorkels often or take them on long trips where there may be more chances of losing them. The only downside is that this type of snorkel keeper can be difficult to attach properly if your snorkel does not already have a clip built into it already.
Two-piece Snorkel Keepers
Two-piece snorkel keepers consist of a strap and buckle that fastens around your goggle strap and a tube that goes over your snorkel. The main advantage of this style is that it’s easy to adjust and put on, plus it’s easy to take off if you need to use your hands while swimming.
They’re also the least expensive option out there, which makes them a good choice if you’re on a budget or just aren’t sure how much you’ll use a snorkel keeper before investing in something more expensive.
How to Attach Snorkel Clip to Mask
It’s easy to attach the snorkel keeper, but there are some tips you need to follow:
- Take off your mask strap from your mask and put on the snorkel clip.
- Adjust the device so that it fits tightly against the strap of your mask.
- Make sure that it’s not too tight or too loose so that it won’t come off easily while swimming.
If you want, you can also add some hot glue on the side of the device where it attaches to the strap of your mask so that it will stay in place even if you jump into water with strong currents or waves, which may push you around.
